I knew the Dalai Lama would talk about compassion, but what I didn't anticipate was that it would shake me so much. I thought it would make me happy to hear that compassion is something we can learn and, in a way, it did. But what he said about its roots, that they lie in the way our parents cared for us when we were children... Again, it sounds like I have to accept my family as a starting point of all my... misery. Or happiness, that is. I still don't want that, I still can't do that.
It was, however, very consoling to see that even the Dalai Lama's feet fall asleep when sitting with his legs crossed for a very long time. :-)
